Massed Bands Formations: Band-in-single-files

All bands conglomerate to form one large band, with each band formed in one or two single files. Soloist pipers and drummers, and numerous bands must complete the single files of smaller bands in order to maintain an orderly formation. One Drum Major must be chosen by the Event Organiser for leading the massed bands, and hence giving the drill orders. The remaining Drum Majors (including those not attached to any specific pipe band) must form in a rank immediately behind the leading Drum Major, evenly distributed throughout the width of the massed bands formation. A minimum of 3 pipe bands are necessary for this formation. The following figure summarises the band-in-single-files formation:
